Where To Rent An Off-Campus Apartment If You're Attending Grad School At Fordham University's Rose Hill Campus

Fordham University's Rose Hill campus is located in the Bronx. If you are planning on attending in the fall and are looking for a place to rent, but are not aware of the different neighborhoods, then this list will help you out. Some areas in the Bronx are not safe, while others are going to be inconvenient for daily travel to the University.

Belmont

Belmont is located right across the street from the campus. When you exit Fordham University and cross Fordham road, you will be in Belmont. The area is also home to one of the cities oldest Italian communities, which is why the area is often called the Little Italy of the Bronx. You should look for an apartment or a room in a house on Arthur Ave, Hughes Ave, or Belmont Ave. The area has lots of grocery stores, as well as some of the city's most popular and authentic Italian restaurants. People drive in from Westchester, Long Island, and other parts of the city to dine there, so it's quite busy and very safe.

It's the closest neighborhood to the Rose Hill campus. You can walk out your front door, cross Fordham Road, and be inside the campus all in under a few minutes. There is subway service into Manhattan, as well as the Metro North outside the University on Fordham Road.

Kingsbridge/Riverdale

If you look west of the University, you will find Kingsbridge and Riverdale. These two neighborhoods are very safe and have tons of apartments. Kingsbridge is located on Broadway. The area has restaurants, shopping, as well as Van Cortland Park for when you want some fresh air and exercise. Look at the streets west of Broadway, including Irwin, Corlear and Kingsbridge Ave.

Riverdale is to the west of Kingsbridge and sits right on the Hudson River. It's elevated, one of the highest spots in the city, so you will have awesome views. The area is super safe and very quiet.

If you have a car, then you can drive to the University. The Rose Hill campus has a huge parking lot. However, it can be tricky to find parking spots in Kingsbridge. Riverdale is a bit easier, and some apartment buildings and homes will have private parking spaces, but you should not count on finding reliable street parking anywhere in the Bronx.

If you don't plan on having a car, you can take the bus (Bx 9) on Broadway. This travels up west and makes stops on Fordham Road, including at Fordham Plaza, which is right outside the University.
